Tara Scholars: Inspiring for a Brighter Future

The Story
# In Memory of My Mother
Tara, who was indeed my guiding “Star,” inspired me to initiate the “Tara Scholars” programme to support underprivileged students associated with Literacy India in accomplishing their academic and life goals.
Literacy India is already doing commendable work in educating underprivileged children through its various programmes offered at more than 50 centres across the country. Through the Tara Scholars programme, I aim to dedicate my personal mentoring time and provide financial support, as required, to a group of deserving students.
Currently, I am engaging with four Class 12 students whom I selected based on their academic performance, family circumstances, and my personal interactions with each of them to understand and validate their commitment to their respective goals.
## Swati — Aspires to Become a Doctor
Swati, a Class 11 student, is the daughter of a security guard who finds it difficult to provide even basic food and shelter for his family of five. Yet, he continues to hope that Swati will one day transform their circumstances.
Focused on Science (PCB), Swati dreams of becoming a doctor. She attended the Pathshala programme at Literacy India, which accelerated her learning journey and provided her with the necessary resources and coaching to excel in her studies.
Swati's determination, coupled with her family's unwavering support, continues to fuel her ambition.
## Niharika — Aspires to Become a Chartered Accountant
Niharika aspires to become a Chartered Accountant. Her father is a greengrocer who sells vegetables and fruits and supports a family of six.
Despite their financial hardships, her parents give the highest priority to Niharika's education. Her participation in programmes such as GYANTANTRA Pathshala and the Certificate in Computer Applications at Literacy India has significantly strengthened her academic journey.
The support she has received from Literacy India has equipped her with essential resources and guidance, helping her overcome obstacles and remain focused on her goals.
## Mansi — Aspires to Become a Software Engineer
Mansi wants to become a Software Engineer. Her father works as a helper and earns a modest income of approximately ₹10,000 per month, which is barely enough to support a family of six.
Despite these challenges, the entire family remains committed to supporting Mansi in pursuing her dream.
Mansi has been actively involved in various Literacy India programmes since she was in Grade 5, which have played an important role in her academic development. She is also a participant in the Coding and Tinkering programmes.
Mansi is naturally inquisitive and has an eagerness to understand the technical aspects of the things and events around her. Her curiosity and determination continue to inspire her journey towards becoming a software engineer.
## Jafrin — Aspires to Build a Career in Banking
Jafrin has chosen Commerce with Mathematics as she aspires to build a career in banking.
Having lived in Bijwasan for more than a decade, Jafrin belongs to a family of seven living in extremely challenging circumstances. Her father, Mohammad Naseen, works as a tailor.
Despite their hardships, it is heartening to see the family's unwavering support for Jafrin's aspirations.
Jafrin's educational journey has been enriched through her involvement in several Literacy India programmes. She has completed her academic journey through Pathshala and has also acquired basic computer skills, which have contributed significantly to her academic and personal development.
With a clear goal of building a career in banking, Jafrin is determined to transform her family's circumstances through hard work, perseverance, and determination.
## A Journey That Inspires
It is a deeply humbling experience to interact with these students and watch their optimism and confidence grow. I feel privileged to have been given this opportunity.
I eagerly look forward to the day when these young women accomplish their dreams. Witnessing that moment will be deeply gratifying and, in many ways, a befitting ode to my mother, Tara.
The stories of Swati, Niharika, Jafrin, and Mansi are a testament to the transformative power of education, institutional support, and community participation. Despite the challenges they face, they remain committed to achieving their dreams and, in doing so, inspire many other young girls facing similar obstacles to pursue their aspirations.
