“Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world,” Roald Dahl once said.
At Literacy India, we believe in unleashing this transformative power within every individual. Through three pioneering initiatives, we’re hoping to uplift the lives of our students. Our Battle of the Brilliant Readers competition ignites curiosity, refining communication skills and fostering a lifelong love for learning. Meanwhile, our Automobile Repairing program empowers students with hands-on training, equipping them to launch their own mechanical workshops and unlock entrepreneurial opportunities. Additionally, our theatrical production, “Door Ke Darshan,” unites students from diverse backgrounds, providing a platform for self-expression and creativity. By nurturing curiosity, entrepreneurship, and creativity, we’re empowering the next generation of change-makers to shape a brighter future.
We believe that a love for reading can ignite the minds of young learners. For students, reading opens doors to worlds filled with rich stories, vibrant characters, poetry, motivational books, and much more. It cultivates thoughtful insight, helping them explore different perspectives while nurturing purposeful understanding. This commitment led to the creation of the “Battle of the Brilliant Readers” competition at our Bajghera Campus, where budding readers from Grades 2 through 10 showcased their competencies. The event aimed to boost communication skills, confidence, and creativity, laying a foundation for aspiring future champions who can express their ideas with clarity and conviction.
The journey began with audition rounds to assess and enhance reading skills, culminating in a learning venture where top readers from each grade showcased their skills. These students, drawn from Literacy India’s diverse canters across Delhi NCR, Noida, Jharkhand, and West Bengal participated in both offline and online formats, creating a collaborative platform for them to inspire one another. Educators from various Literacy India centers evaluated each performance based on fluency, comprehension, and audience engagement. The students demonstrated remarkable growth and poise throughout. Categorizing the event by age groups fostered camaraderie and offered age-appropriate challenges, making the experience both supportive and inspiring.
With championships, we aim to develop essential skills such as leadership, collaboration, and public speaking, which are crucial for success in education, career, and personal growth. As students continue to develop these abilities, they become more adept at problem-solving, engaging in meaningful discussions, and advocating for themselves and their communities.
To address the need for localized employment and curb rural-to-urban migration, Literacy India Community College has introduced a Six-Month Two-Wheeler Automotive Skill Training Program.
This program was designed with the goal of empowering rural youth, allowing them to become skilled mechanics in their own regions. By teaching operation, repair, and maintenance of two-wheelers, we are creating a foundation for students to establish themselves as valuable resources within their villages.
Training takes place in an industry-modeled lab, with students engaging directly with two-wheeler models. This hands-on experience is a bridge between theoretical learning and real-world application, ensuring students are ready to handle real repairs and maintenance challenges confidently and are empowered to start their own workshops locally.
It not only provides self-employment opportunities but also creates potential job openings for other rural youth, fostering a cycle of local employment. The program includes essential business and customer service training, delivered in partnership with SkillIt, to help participants grow their ventures sustainably. By promoting skill development within their communities, this initiative strengthens local economies, enhances youth employability, and reduces the need for young people to seek jobs in urban areas.
Daulat, a resilient 20-year-old from Bhati Mines, New Delhi, grew up in a refugee colony and faced multiple obstacles in her pursuit of education. Initially, her parents were reluctant to send her for paramedical training due to distance and accommodation concerns. However, after counseling and visits to the institute, Daulat’s parents supported her decision, recognizing the value of the opportunity. Today, she works at Major Hospital in Gurugram, earning 13,000 rupees monthly, providing essential support to her family. With the power of perseverance and skill development, Daulat transformed not only her life but also uplifting her family’s prospects.
At just 15 years old, Tsering hails from Likir village in Leh, where his father works as a carpenter and his mother is a homemaker. Despite their modest means, Tsering’s parents have always placed a high value on education, instilling in him a strong drive to learn. Enrolled in Literacy India’s Future Skill program, Tsering initially faced challenges with computer skills but, through perseverance and hard work, he mastered MS Word, MS Excel, and coding basics like conditional statements. His newfound technical abilities not only enhanced his academic performance but also helped him achieve an impressive 89% in his exams. Tsering’s success underscores the importance of digital literacy and education for underprivileged children, equipping them with the tools to unlock their full potential.
