Skill training empowers Shreyasi to become a Pillar for her family

Shreyasi Sen is a skilled knitting artisan associated with Literacy India from Khedadih, Jharkhand. She comes from a family of four, including her divorced mother, younger brother, and grandfather. Despite financial challenges, Shreyasi completed her formal education up to B.A, while her younger brother is currently studying in the 12th standard. Shreyasi’s mother works in a garment shop and earns a modest income.

Shreyasi honed her knitting skills through a three-month training program at the center.

She quickly gained expertise in various knitting techniques using needles and hand machines, allowing her to create a wide range of woolen products like sweaters, caps, and mufflers. With the support of Literacy India, she purchased a hand knitting machine and established a home-based business.

Presently, Shreyasi serves as a master artisan for ‘Indha Craft’ and actively assists fellow artisans in improving their weaving techniques and producing higher quality products. She receives orders for various woolen items from the local community. As a result of her dedication and hard work, Shreyasi now earns Rs. 2000/- per month, contributing to her family’s income and setting an example for others in her community.
