Redefining Freedom – Empowering the Next Generation
In celebration of Freedom Month, Literacy India empowered over 3,400 students across its Pathshala centers, Vidyapeeth, and Saraswati Sishu Mandir schools across various states with a renewed sense of independence. Udaan ,Nayi Soch Ki Activities spanned green initiatives, digital and financial literacy workshops, health camps, art workshops, debates, discussions and myth-busting sessions. Students also learned about taxes, performed skits and songs on themes like sharing, caring, and challenging superstitious beliefs. Special highlights included Robotics teams reaching the World Robotics Championship quarterfinals and an inspiring visit to SGT University on World Space Day, all contributing to a future where freedom becomes a reality for all.

A clean and green environment is the first step towards a healthy life, and our centers took this message to heart. Over 350 young students across all our centers – from Alchi in Ladakh to Lowakui & Chingrighata in West Bengal and Bowenpally in Hyderabad, cleaned their centers and surrounding communities, picking up dry waste and sweeping roads These students also actively engaged in plantation drives and collecting organic waste for composting. Furthermore, Hygiene kits were distributed to participants, ensuring they are equipped to maintain healthier environments.

Literacy India advanced digital and financial literacy through targeted programs across centers like Bhatti Mines, Chhawla, and Gejha. These workshops equipped women and participants with essential online skills and scam avoidance techniques. PAN India centers, in partnership with Udyam and supported by NSE, offered financial literacy sessions on managing earnings, saving, and investing. Additionally, Class 9 and 10 students at Vidyapeeth Bajghera gained crucial insights into income tax from the accounts team. Nearly 200 participants enhanced their financial knowledge and skills.

Access to healthcare is a major challenge in many communities. Our Health and Wellness Camps at Bijwasan, Mandkola, and Salkia provided free medical services, including eye and full-body check-ups. At Salkia, 96 community members received immediate care and health education, highlighting the importance of preventive care for a healthier life.

Art is a powerful form of expression. At Daultabad and Belgachhiya, aspiring artists and beauticians showcased their talents, while Salkia students created digital and traditional art on freedom and independence. These workshops offered a creative outlet, boosting confidence and self-expression.
Community Dialogues at Gupta colony and Bhatti Minse in Delhi
To address isolation, we organized Community Dialogues at Nandurbar and Jharna, where parents, students, and educators built supportive networks and shared experiences. Reshma from Gupta Colony highlighted her journey and aspirations, showing the strength found in community connections. Empowerment Talks at Belgachhiya and Salkia featured successful speakers who inspired young women to defy societal norms. Vidyapeeth students discussed issues like alcohol abuse, gender discrimination, and the effects of abusive language, raising awareness and fostering community responsibility.
Reshma from Gupta Colony shared, “I’m learning to stitch while looking to start a home-based business. Despite losing my husband, I’m hopeful for our family’s future, with my daughter aiming to become a scientist.”
During Literacy India’s Freedom Month, Myth-Buster sessions at our schools—Vidyapeeth, Bajghera, Saraswati Sishu Mandir, at Jharna—focused on debunking superstitions through education and critical thinking. Activities included a “Sadhu Doctor” role play and the Nukkad Natak “Nayi Soch, Naya Savera,” which highlighted the dangers of blind trust and encouraged questioning of beliefs. The event featured scientific explanations to challenge common superstitions, experimental activities demonstrating the science behind magical phenomena, and a Q&A session with 477 students to promote rational thinking. Students also created props from waste materials to enhance their presentations. This initiative successfully inspired participants to apply logic and critical thinking in their daily lives
Students of Literacy India participated in World Robotics Championship at Noida
August was a standout month for Vidyapeeth students. Our Robotics Soccer and Sumo Bot teams excelled, reaching the quarterfinals at the World Robotics Championship in Noida. On World Space Day, students visited SGT University for interactive sessions on space exploration and high-altitude balloon launches, igniting their passion for science and technology.
As Freedom Month concludes, it’s clear that true freedom goes beyond celebration. The activities across our centers have broken barriers and laid the foundation for freedom through knowledge. This progress is just the start—let’s keep breaking chains, illuminating minds, and forging a future where freedom is a reality for all.
